Welcome to CAMP!

This program is designed to be part of the solution to stop the proposed administration of water rights in 2025 by KDA-DWR. It is a way that YOU can keep control of your water right, stabilize the local economy, and increase conservation!

Compensated allocation management program

How Does It Work

  • Must be in 70% or greater impact to the stream (red, orange)
  • Deposit all OR portion of your water right based on average historic water use from 2002 to 2021
  • Once a water right is deposited, that water stays in the ground and is NOT pumped or leased elsewhere (100% CONSERVATION)
  • Annual compensation for amount of water deposited, impact to the streamflow, and duration of deposit
  • First $200 of payment, per AF, is funded by the State of Kansas
  • Dryland or Limited Irrigation farming allowed
  • Full allocation returns once deposit contract is fulfilled

Intent to Deposit

The Intent to Deposit form, needs to be filled out, and signed,

as soon as possible.

This form (not a contract) shows KDA-DWR that the irrigators in this high impact area are willing to make this program work and will continue their increased conservation practices with compensation.

Applications to Deposit and Contracts will be signed later in the year and beginning of 2025.

Proposed Payment Matrix

Payment increases depending on the length of the contracted that water is deposited and the impact to streamflow.

Payment amounts above $200 per AF are funded through private funding.

Currently working with WaterPACK, Kansas Water Users Association, The Nature Conservancy, Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas Corn, and Kansas Farm Bureau searching for additional funding to support these payments.

Conservation Funding Opportunities

•State of Kansas has designated $4 million  to pay for the first $200 per AF

•Cost share funding needed –
 $3.8 Million

•Private funding already received is  $300,000+

•Will expand funding to lower impact zones until  all funds are used in full

•Potential to conserve over 5,000 AF of  ACTUAL use

or 7293 AF of Appropriated use which is equal to:

more than 2.3 BILLION Gallons of water!!!
